Screen Recorder Install

A Chrome extension by Sovrest

Record your screen from the browser

The extension captures your whole screen, a single application window or one browser tab, encodes the video inside the browser and hands you a finished file on your own machine.

No account and no sign-up. Free tier: up to 10 minutes per recording at 720p and 30 frames per second.

Desktop Chrome only: phones cannot install browser extensions.

What the extension does

It records your screen, a tab or an application window, captures audio, pauses on demand and saves the finished video to disk.

Screen, tab or window

You pick the source in Chrome’s own share picker: the entire screen, one application window or a single browser tab. A dedicated camera mode is part of Pro.

Audio, pause and countdown

Microphone and system audio are toggles. A 3, 2, 1 countdown runs before capture starts, recording can be paused and resumed, and it stops on its own when it reaches the duration limit.

A finished file, locally

When you stop, the browser assembles the video and offers to save it. MP4 plays almost anywhere, WebM is smaller. You can trim the clip inside the extension before saving it.

How to record your screen

Three steps: install the extension, press Start Recording and choose a source, then stop and save the file.

Install the extension

It installs from the Chrome Web Store in one click. There is no sign-up: the popup opens ready to record, with Screen already selected.

Press Start Recording

A 3, 2, 1 countdown runs first, then Chrome shows its own share picker, where you choose the screen, window or tab. During capture the timer shows elapsed time against your limit.

Stop and save

Stop Recording hands the clip to the browser to finalize, then you save it to your computer. From the same screen you can trim the ends or start a fresh recording.

Where your recordings go

Nowhere: recordings stay on your computer. Capture, encoding, the watermark and the MP4 conversion all happen inside your browser, you save the finished file yourself, and we hold no copy of it.

The only network request the extension makes goes to sovrest.com/api/licenses, and only when you activate, refresh or deactivate a Pro licence. If you never activate one, the extension makes no network requests at all.

The scripting and activeTab permissions, and site access, exist for exactly one job: drawing the click and cursor highlight over the tab you are recording, if you turned that on. Nothing is read from the page and nothing is sent anywhere.

  • Capture starts only after you pick a source in Chrome’s share picker, and you do that for every recording.
  • The extension does not request tabCapture or desktopCapture: screen, window and tab capture all go through getDisplayMedia.
  • No cookies, no analytics, no ad networks, no third-party SDKs. The promo panel free users see is built into the extension, not fetched.
  • Settings, your custom watermark and licence data live in chrome.storage.local and go away when you uninstall.
  • Full details: the privacy policy.

Frequently asked questions

Price, limits, audio and what happens to the finished file.

Is the screen recorder free?

Yes, basic recording is free and needs no sign-up. The number of recordings is unlimited; what is limited is length (up to 10 minutes each) and quality (720p at 30 frames per second), a small Sovrest watermark is drawn on the video, and the popup shows our own promo panel.

Pro starts at 149 rubles per month. It raises the limit to 60 minutes and up to 4K at 60 frames per second, adds camera recording, and removes both the watermark and the promo panel.

Where is the recorded video saved?

To your own computer: when you stop, the extension prepares the file, you press Download, and the browser opens its normal save dialog, pointed at your Downloads folder by default. There is no server anywhere in that chain.

You choose the format in settings: MP4 plays almost everywhere, WebM is smaller. You can also trim the recording inside the extension before you save it.

Are recordings uploaded anywhere?

No, never. Capture, encoding, the watermark and the MP4 conversion all run inside your browser, the video is not transmitted, and Sovrest holds no copy of it.

The one network request the extension makes goes to sovrest.com/api/licenses when you activate, refresh or deactivate a Pro licence. Without a licence it never touches the network. There are no cookies, no analytics, no ad networks and no third-party SDKs.

Can it record microphone and tab audio?

Yes, both are free and both are toggles in settings. The microphone is on by default and system audio is off.

System audio is captured in screen and tab modes, and you need to tick "Share tab audio" in Chrome’s share picker, otherwise the browser hands over no sound.

Does recording stop if I switch tabs?

No, it keeps going. Capture and encoding run in an invisible Chrome offscreen document rather than in the popup, so the recording survives tab switches and carries on while you work.

To stop it, open the extension popup again. When a recording hits the duration limit it stops on its own, and the file is not lost.

How do I remove the watermark?

The watermark goes away with Pro: the free tier draws a small sovrest.com and t.me/sovrest mark on the video.

Pro adds no mark at all, and if you want one, you can upload your own PNG or JPG up to 1 MB and set its corner, size and opacity. That image stays on your device and is only drawn onto your own recording.

Can I record my camera on top of the screen?

Yes, though both camera features are Pro. The dedicated Camera mode records the camera feed alone, while the camera overlay adds a small webcam window in the corner of a screen recording.

You pick the corner and the size of the overlay in settings. On the free tier both are visible in the interface but marked with a PRO badge.

Which browsers does it work in?

Google Chrome on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS: this is a Chrome extension and it installs from the Chrome Web Store. Other Chromium browsers that can install Chrome Web Store extensions work too.

Firefox and Safari will not, since they use a different extension store. Phones are out as well: Chrome for Android and iOS does not support extensions.

How do I uninstall it or cancel Pro?

Uninstall it like any other extension: right-click its icon in the Chrome toolbar and choose Remove from Chrome. That deletes every local setting and all licence data with it.

A Pro licence can be deactivated on this device from inside the extension, which frees the slot for another computer. Your recordings stay where they are: they are ordinary files in your Downloads folder, so delete them yourself if you want them gone.

Record your screen in the next minute

The extension installs in one click, works without an account and asks for nothing beyond the source you choose.
